Apothecary Jars

Today I will be talking about Apothecary Jars. These are usually made of glass and have a lid. the fact that they are clear is what makes them so easy to use and have around. You can put anything inside these jars!!! Food, Candles, Rocks, Sand, Decorative Bulbs, Flowers (real or fake), ANYTHING!! I typical place to find these jars is in the bathroom. As you can see below they hold soap, sponges, and bath salts!! It displays everyday products that are used in a fun and simple way that adds uniqueness and a spa like quality to your bathroom.

I am a HUGE "Brothers & Sisters" fan!! I love love love Nora Walkers Kitchen. One of the things I like the most is that she has this big bay window with two or three giant apothecary jars filled with snacks. I know Pretzels is in one of them!! I tried to find a picture but had no luck.

I don't know if you noticed but all of these pictures of a grouping of these jars is in sets of THREE!! Three is very key. When I was in school they taught us that is was always good to do things in odd numbered groupings. This is true with anything... try it out and you will see!!

Another thing that I like about displaying the simplest things in a Jar is it's easy on the budget!! I mean pasta and rice.. not too pricey!! Also you can switch the contents any time you feel that the room could use a change.. without changing the whole room!! I do this all the time. I personally only own one apothecary jar.. but I do have other jars that I keep dog treats in. Or i use to have flour, sugar, and tea bags in them. You can put what you need right where you want it and call it a DECORATION!!! Talk about CHEAP!!
Well since it's Friday I we have friends coming over I better go. But I will be back tomorrow with a new IDEA!! Not sure what that will be yet?? Until the next time!!

Trunks Continued...

PB $1,299.00

Pier 1 $199.000

Target $199.00

Trunks are very popular right now. I have noticed that they are commonly being used as a coffee table. This is another good idea. I inherited my two trunks but found some very nice ones in your everyday common stores. First is the trunk from Pottery Barn, it is $1,299.00. If you notice this trunk is styled after a luggage trunk and looks to be leather with buckles and snaps. Also it does not have feet like the two others,it sits right on the bottom of the trunk. The next trunk is from Pier 1 Imports this runs $199.00. This trunk caught my eye because it is more modern with an Asian flare. It proves that trunks aren't just for the traditional or county cute houses. This trunk looks very modern and chic!! The last trunk is from good old Target!! A personal favorite place to spend money of mine. This trunk is also $199.00 and has a very strong well made quality. This reminds me of my mothers cedar chest growing up because it is smooth and long and it looks REALLY HEAVY!! I would love to hear feed back on any of your own trunks or trunks you have found in stores. I also welcome questions and topic ideas that may be appealing to my readers... if I have any!! :) Tomarrow I think the topic will be Apathacary Jars!!

Some of the things I love for around the house.

living room

this trunk came from Portugal with my husbands family

dining room

this wall seemed bleak and is the main focal point you see when you enter my front door

So throughout the next few days I am going to talk about some of the "nic-nak" things I have around my house that I feel add charm and are versatile with each season. To begin I have two older trunks that I use as display tables. I have them in spots along a wall that needs to have a focal point or that would be useful to have a table to set a drink or lamp on. I have found that having these around makes larger rooms feel fuller without having another table. My living room and dining room are large and I felt there was spaces that needed to be filled in to provide balance. I have posted pictures above.
